Local artist Cat, works in digital and alternative photo media, making digital collage and cyanotype prints. Her fascination with repetition is also central to her work. She lived in Morocco from 2014 - 2017, while there she began training in Islamic geometric design, studying how to draw patterns by hand as well as the classical and spiritual underpinnings of this tradition.
This selection of framed, handmade blueprints are first hand drawn in graphite pencil to create a negative; this negative is then used to print a cyanotype. Each print, while created with the same negative is handmade and unique.
Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printing processes, invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842. After his death in 1871, cyanotype was used as a method of reproducing architectural plans and drawings and became known as 'blueprints'.
