We started Dowry in 2009, when my mum and I began collaborating on home sewing projects. Our shared passion for old textiles evolved into a small business that now produces a diverse range of handmade items ranging in size from re-upholstered furniture, ottomans and cushions to small toys and pincushions. We have since diversified with a small line of clothing and accessories from vintage fabric, linen and textiles from around the world.
Dowry‘s beliefs centre on slow design and sustainability. Initially, we sold our handcrafted wares at markets and popup shops. In 2014 we opened a small retail space with studio and workshop space attached. We create from this space with the help of a part-time sewer and patternmaker and local upholsterer.
The store is evolving all the time and incorporates a curated selection of products from local makers and brands. Every product we sell has been carefully selected based on its quality, craftsmanship, environmental impact and of course beauty!
